Will the 5-year jail term for Lalu Prasad help clean up Indian politics?

Seventeen years after the fodder scam entered the public realm, the RJD's maverick leader Lalu Prasad has been sent to jail for five years for his involvement. Will political parties now be on their toes and start cleaning up their act? Or will the sentence have no impact, given the penchant for tainted politicians to make a backdoor entry through relatives, friends, associates and stooges? Do share your views with us.

The so-called people’s representatives, especially the ruling dispensation, should clearly perceive the harbingers of change and must see the writing on the wall that “islands of prosperity is not sustainable amidst sea of poverty & destitution for long and that for their misdeeds and corrupt practices, their future generations will inevitably pay a very heavy price”, as history has shown time and again. Not only the imprisonment but the entire gobbled money with penal interest should be recovered, if required through by attaching their personal properties. Such draconian punishment will create deterrence against such crimes by politicians and unscrupulous bureaucrats. K.R. SRINIVASAN

Only if he stays there for 5 years!

This is a weak example to set. The decision should have been taken years ago. Though, it's still better than setting him free.

Yes surely he shoud have been in jail 20 yrs ago itself for 20 yrs corruption should be dealt as highest offence. Even a child would give judgement at that time that he should be jailed.
