Has Manmohan Singh blundered on foreign policy by skipping the CHOGM meet?

The Prime Minister isn't going to Sri Lanka to attend the CHOGM Summit, ostensibly due to pressure from various Tamil groups protesting the killing of Tamil minorities in the Island country. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will be heading the delegation instead. Is Manmohan Singh's decision a bad one for India's foreign policy, and has he compromised the country's foreign policy interests in the region, given that its two rivals China and Pakistan have made considerable headway in the same area? Should the Prime Minister have ignored the protests and gone to Colombo where his raising concerns about the Sri Lankan genocide before global leaders would have carried more weight? Or did he do the right thing by pandering to the views of Tamils in India? We look forward to your responses.

The national interests always take precedence over regional interests and it would have been proper for PM to visit Colombo in CHOGM Meet.

Indeed; Mr Manmohan Singh could not go beyond his domestic compulsions be it Tista Water Sharing or non-attendance of Commonwealth conference. Unfortunately, we in India never look at neighbours as friend and follow old Imperialist way to look down upon.

The way you have posed your question is disgusting and irresponsible,to say the least. In fact you should be ashamed of yourself to pose such a leading question. Had he attended the meet, you would have posed your question as: HAS MANMOHAN SHAMED THE NATION AND BETRAYED THE TAMILIANS BY ATTENDING CHOGM. Come on, B S, your slip is not only showing, is completely exposed. -saam

He has no policy and no faculty.During his tenure India has lost 10years.Where all the money and resources have gone. People are becoming poorer day by day.In democracy they select a leader with sound mind and sound body.He lacks both.In such a divided society minority people choose a party to rule. The leader has no credibility. This pm hardly speaks, how do you know he acts at all.People missing one very important factor, does this guy has functional brain at all? I seriously doubt.
